This is the easiest thing you will ever make in your Instant Pot! You literally add 2 ingredients for unsweetened yogurt or one or two additional for sweetened.
1 Container Ultra-filtered milk such as Fairlife (this is what i used). This also has more protein because of the filtered nature. Consistency will vary based on how much fat is in the milk you choose. I use skim so I usually have more liquid on the surface when it is finished.
1 Container of any yogurt with active cultures OR, after your first batch, keep 2 tablespoons from that batch to use in the following batches.
*Pour a container of Fairlife or other Ultra-filtered milk and yogurt starter into your Instant Pot.
*Whisk together thoroughly. Put on a pot lid (NOT the Instant Pot lid or your yogurt will taste like your last IP meal). I put a towel draped over the pot between the lid and the pot to catch condensation.
*Then push the Yogurt button and walk away. The display will say 8:00 and then start counting UP to 8:00 hours. I usually do this in the morning so by late afternoon/evening it is done.
*When finished it will beep. DON’T STIR! Take the inner pot out of the Instant Pot and put it on a pot holder in the refrigerator. I leave it in there overnight and in the morning it is ready.
*Optional (and depending on your consistency)…I usually strain mine. I put it in a colander lined with coffee filters or paper towels. Mine usually has extra liquid, assuming because it is skim. I drain mine so it’s more of a thicker greek yogurt consistency.
*These are the only 2 ingredients I use to make mine. When complete, I store mine in these individual glass containers.
*When we are ready to eat some, we pull one out of the refrigerator and usually add some type of topping. Raw honey, low sugar jelly, granola, peanut butter or chia seed jam are great additions to this yogurt to add a little sweetness and/or crunch. I also use this in place of sour cream, less fat and more protein.
**Some people have added sweetener in addition to the milk and yogurt to the Instant Pot before the yogurt cycle. I have seen recommendations of sweetened condensed milk, Natural Bliss Creamer, or other sweeteners. I personally don’t, as I feel this adds too much sugar and takes away some of the health benefits of making it yourself. I like that I can control the ingredients and add some sweetness at the end. This is a personal preference.
This has become a staple in out household. I usually double the ingredients because we have a larger family. It is a tasty, economical, and healthy way to make yogurt in a super easy way. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out!
